This is why I bang on about drinking, smoking and eating

Meanwhile, in the land of the free......Nanny bans cakes and pop at school Christmas parties. From CBS Boston

Students are being told to leave the Christmas cookies, cakes, candy bars, and soda at home and to bring fruits, unsweetened juices, popcorn and raisins instead.

But it's ok because the Superintendent in charge of the school district is there to reassure us

“We aren’t trying to take the Christmas out of Christmas. We’re not trying to take the enjoyment out of children’s lives

Yes you are. And the scary thing is you don't even realise your doing it!

I like old pearls of wisdom. Those little phrases and the like contain more truths than we sometimes give them credit for. Take the old adage give them an inch and they'll take a mile and you see the relevance of this wisdom in this area. It could almost have been written for the militant healthist lobby.

This is why I spend a lot of time on this blog going on about smoking bans, drinking and eating. It's because it is becoming increasingly obvious that these militant healthists can't help themselves and just can't stop. And they won't stop because in their minds they are doing it for the greater good. They are doing it because if you like a smoke, want to drink more than a couple of glasses of wine in a night or like nothing more than the smell of bacon in the morning they think you cant be trusted to make decisions for yourself. They think your weak willed and have no mind of your own. And, in short they always think the answer is to control you, bully you are restrict access to these goods for your own good.

And so, this is where (either passively or proactively) encouraging and supporting these people leads. It starts out with ever tightening rules and regulations on smoking, drinking and eating but ends with some po faced, power crazed, jumped up petty bureaucrat banning cakes and sweets at a kids christmas party.

Is this the sort of society we really want?
